Title : account-style logins - BETA
Right now you can login with EITHER your account name or
your normal login with just a character name. THIS WILL BE
CHANGING to only account-style logins. If you want to help
test out the account logins, keep reading and type 'account'
for your Character name at login.
Account-Style Logins:
We now have account-style logins. They use your 'mychars' account name.
Multiple characters are kept under a single account. Features:
1: security question/answer
you can set your own security question/answer where, if you answer
it, you can reset your password shoul you forget it. the answer is
encrypted like passwords.
2: email
if you provide an email address, we will try and randomly generate
you a new password and mail it to this address if you cannot answer
your security question. don't have one on file or have an invalid
one, say goodbye to your characters forever.
3: newsletter
if you have a valid email address 'on file' and also have voluntarily
signed up (you have to OPT IN) for the newsletter then we will send
you a little newsletter to your email occassionally. not sure how
often, but probably no more than once / month unless something
special is going on. you can always opt out of this if you don't
want it later.
4: characters
you can log in characters, create a new character, and delete existing
characters.
delete characters:
delete really does delete. there is no backup made, no restore
possible. everything is nuked, gone for ood. houses, shops,
war data, player data, data base entry - all gone. things that are
tied across an ACCOUNT (like bank, magewar, etc) are still kept in
tact
5: logging!
everything is logged including IP address. screw around on us and
we'll IP ban you using our relatively new site banning code.
6: character limit upped to 30 - go forth and raise more chars!
7: changes to mud:
password command: gone. you log in now from your account. if
you want to change your password you do it for the entire account
at the account login prompt.
mychars command: still exists but it's ONLY to print out
information. you can't change email address, add new chars, etc.
do those things from the main login menu
This is now in beta-testing. I hope to fully integrate it within a
week. If you'd like to help test, please type 'account' (without the
quotes) for your character name when you log in o the MUD. You'll need
your ACCOUNT name and password. Please set your security q/a, consider
setting an email address as well as signing up for the newsletter.
Submit bugs via mudmail directly to me or the wizards will assign bugs
you submit with the 'bug' command to me. I'd be interested in some
ideas but at this point I don't want any complex "it'd be cool if"
ideas. Going for basic functionality that we can run with. Little
things you would prefer being printed, formatting ("there should be a
carriage return here"), typos, etc I'm interested in.
Hope everyone enjoys. Lots of hard work and much thanks to Punk for
help along the way with some brainstorming and complex bugs.
NOTE: There are a few things that can't be finished until we completely
do away with character logins (like we have right now). The MUD
'password' command and all the changes you can do through 'mychars'
will disappear once this goes live.
