All,

Bob-jim will now complete your current quest when you ask for a new job
(if you've killed all the requested npcs,) and suggest a new job for you.
This should streamline the process a bit, and make it less confusing.

I've also tweaked him slightly to make it a little more clear that it
takes him a while to be ready for work, these days.
