Tsunami Newsletter [Issue #2]
This is our second newsletter - about a month and a half after the first one! As usual, Tsunami has been in a pretty much constant state of change . . . hopefully for the better.
Recent Changes
We've had a LOT of changes and while I don't normally like to call out specific people for their hard work but this time I will.
Overview: Lots of class balance changes - the Rogues guild seems to have gotten quite a few buffs!
Chaitan's Work
- Guts (skill) removed from Thieves and Thugs.
- Thieves received the Dodge skill. Dodge was increased in many ways including a toughness bonus to Thugs, you can still do other actions while dodging, and now there is a chance to avoid
hitback damage from Backstab or Bludgeon while dodging!
- Bludgeon and Preparation were improved slightly in damage and cast time, respectively.
- All Rogues now do not become too wounded to move in Wars until they have low HP *AND*SP.
- Chian-Lung's Acid Pool was buffed slightly.
- Swashbuckler Parry was redesigned and combined with a boost to Lunge!
- Juggernaughts received several boosts - more mods, lower mod cost, and Maul was increased!
Mobius's Work
- A Werewolf's pack is now slightly more powerful.
- Amazons now heal more while Mutilizated. It is now based on their maximum HP instead of a fixed amount.
- Trapmaking - buffed all around! Reduced time, increased damage, more resilient traps.
- Mummy Strangle and Bless were both buffed.
- Enchanters are now much better at enchanting their own gear than other people's items.
Zartan's Work
- You can now create a Ring of Life with the Demon Creation spell (but not in wars or arenas).
- Added new emotes 'roflcopter' and 'lollerskaters'. One wonders how Tsunami ever survived without these before.
Darkarn's Work
- Ninjas were buffed in many ways. First, they received the Dim Mak skill. Second, their Quicken skill now allows them to attack extra-fast but at the expense of their defenses. Shurikens
were buffed and finally, Assassinate now deals a round of combat after the Assassination lands.
Razan's Work
- We now have account-wide aliases and colors (no more setting 'ga = get all' on every character you make).
- TWars have seen a LOT of changes. Firstly, EXP value was increased and the EXP was made unfiltered (WOW!). Secondly, we now have VERY detailed statistics available with the 'twarstats'
command. You can look at what classes are doing the best. Next, we have a 'twarscore' command which lists your PERSONAL TWar statistics over different time periods. Finally, if we have 6
or more players in a TWar special buffs will be handed out after the war for the players so they can then head off to adventure with bonuses!
- We now have TWar top player rankings (type 'twarstats') where the top 20 players each week, month, year, and for all time are listed. To get on this list requires playing regularly (5
matches / week, for instance). Also the list resets at the end of each time period. The monthly records just reset last night. Currently the metric for best players is points earned per
war.
- WAR TOKENS! Tsunami has War Tokens which are awarded for participation and success in wars. Shutdown wars award considerably more tokens than TWar. Also, at the end of the TWar ranking
periods (above) bonus tokens are handed out to the top 10 players. See below for the rewards for the month of July!
Other Work
- Punk has been working on some special projects on our web site to be revealed sometime soon!
- Aristotle and Punk have been helping a LOT with some complicated database code for us.
- Shutdown war times were reduced to 13 hours.
PK Changes
- Cannot deposit while 'aggro' anymore. Long live the Thieves!
- The setenv 'nopk' variable now allows you to attack others if they have attacked you first - you fight back now.
Upcoming Changes
- We will reveal soon what you can buy with War Tokens and how much those items cost. The items are in development right now.
- The PK system is, yes again, getting an overhaul. We've been working on this design for a bit now and I'm really excited about it. Hopefully you guys will like it too!
- None of us Wizards really like points/war being the metric for TWar rankings as it encourages people to get in a few good wars and then stop playing. We've developed a new metric and will
release it soon.
Top Monthly PKers
The month of July used a points per war metric for calculating the best TWar players. The following list shows the final ranking of our best twarrers for last month!
- Aslivickah (Unicorn)
- Leon (Aohitogusa)
- Flynn (Swashbuckler)
- Stab (Hunter)
- Vrag (Ghoul)
- Boulanger (Will o' Wisp)
- Critias (Beholder)
- Hoshigaki (Troll)
- Simigwa (Beastmaster)
- Dartanian (Hydra)
In Conclusion...
We put a lot of effort into Tsunami to bring our imagination to life and truly hope our players find it a great avenue for their adventures. We welcome suggestions, ideas, and work hard to
